OPEN THE DOORS
Bring Your Work, Your Artists, Your Ideas to the ITI World
15-17 December 2026 | Pre-General Assembly Exchange Programme
Every General Assembly is an important moment in the life of the International Theatre Institute (ITI): a time when our worldwide community comes together to fulfil its institutional responsibilities, reconnect, exchange experiences and look towards what comes next.
For the 38th ITI General Assembly, taking place online in December 2026, we are giving this international exchange its own space. Before the Statutory General Assembly on 18 December, three days — 15, 16 and 17 December — will be dedicated to ITI Centres, Committees and Networks and the artistic communities they connect.
THIS IS YOUR SPACE. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BRING?
Share your own work. An achievement, a current project, a new initiative, an experience worth sharing, or a future plan you would like the ITI community to know about.
Open a door onto the artistic life around you. Introduce an artist, a theatre or dance production, a festival, organisation, partner or artistic practice that you believe others should discover.
Bring forward an idea or possibility. A question worth discussing, research or knowledge to share, a project looking for partners, or an initiative you would like to develop internationally.
Your contribution does not need to be a formal presentation. It could be a conversation, a theatre or dance excerpt, an artistic demonstration or performance, a short video, a project presentation, a keynote or reflection, a dialogue between several participants — or another format that works for what you want to share.
What matters is what you want to bring into the ITI community.
Three Days. Three Pathways.
· 15 Dec. | Performing Arts & Society
How are the performing arts engaging with the world around us?
Share work, experiences and artistic practices that speak to communities, education, cultural diversity and heritage, inclusion, artistic freedom, sustainability, intercultural dialogue and the many ways performing arts interact with society.
· 16 Dec. | Connecting through Collaboration
What becomes possible when we connect and work together?
Bring an existing collaboration, an international or regional initiative, a partnership experience — or something you would like to make possible next. This can also be the place to say: We have an idea. We are looking for partners. Who would like to talk with us?
· 17 Dec. | Imagining the Future
What should we be looking towards — and what should we begin imagining together?
Bring emerging ideas, new artistic approaches, future plans and questions around new generations, education, technology and AI, audiences, sustainability, new forms of creation, the future of ITI and the changing performing arts landscape.
Choose Your Way In
You do not need to participate in all three days. Choose the pathway most relevant to you. If you have something meaningful to bring to a second pathway, you can do that too. You can also join other sessions simply to listen, discover, exchange and connect.
YOU BRING THE CONTRIBUTION. WE SHAPE THE ENCOUNTER TOGETHER.
The ITI General Secretariat will curate the programme from the contributions received, bringing together related ideas, complementary experiences and different voices from across the ITI community. ITI will also invite international artists, thinkers and other voices to enrich the three pathways. A contribution may stand on its own, lead into a conversation, connect with another Centre's experience, or become part of a larger exchange.
The purpose is not to fill three days with presentations. It is to create a programme in which the diversity, work and artistic life of ITI can become visible to one another — and where new connections can begin.
What Will You Bring?
